Structural Engineering project
This page provides access to project documents and temporary files for the Structural Engineering Project
For information about the project see SEP-About-the-project
Please start the name of all temporary project files with the letters: 'SEP' so that we can easily identify them for deletion once they are no longer required

Design documents
- Client brief : The documents issued by the client. This has two components: (a) What service the client wishes to be provided and (b) What performance the client expects from the structure.
- Requirements statement: Starts with the client brief and adds further items.
- Option analysis report: Statement of the reasons for choosing the form of the structure, materials etc.
- Technical assessment report*
- Design proposal: A statement about the proposed structure that explains how the requirements have been satisfied.
- Output for contractor: drawings, specifications, tender documents.
* Note that I am using the terminology: Structural design encompasses all design process activities. Technical assessment is the use of structural mechanics and code of practice provisions to seek to ensure that the structure will satisfy performance criteria. Technical assessment issues include: Strength, serviceability, stability, robustness, fire resistance, foundations, safety, risk, etc. The technical assessment report would include the calculations and the structural analysis activities.
